Top 10 Things to Do on Your First Visit to Pigeon Forge

If you are headed to the Smoky Mountains and Pigeon Forge for the first time, get excited!!  You are in for a treat from the moment you drive into town.  Pigeon Forge has something that everyone in the family will enjoy from attractions to dinner shows to restaurants and great lodging.

Here is a list of the top 10 things to do on your first visit to Pigeon Forge.

1. Stay in an area cabin. This is the best way to truly experience all the sights, sounds, and feels of the Smokies.  With so many choices, you will not have to look far to find the perfect one to suit your family needs.

2. Visit the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This is the most visited national park in the US and once you arrive you will understand why.  So much nature, so much beauty, so much peacefulness….any season of the year!

3. Head over to the Outdoor Gravity Park and take a ride in the OGO.  Pigeon Forge is home to the only location for zorbing in the United States.  Zorbing originated in New Zealand and is an exciting adventure of rolling down a hill while enclosed in a very large transparent ball.

4. Learn to fly at Flyaway Indoor Skydiving. They brought America’s first vertical wind tunnel to Pigeon Forge.  Here you get the chance to experience human flying while inside a 21-foot wind tunnel with winds up to 120 mph and some of the best instructors around.

5. Check out Pigeon Forge Snow, the newest attraction to the area. This is the first indoor snow complex in North America. Pigeon Forge Snow offers real snow and 15 lanes for a fun indoor snow tubing adventure that the whole family will enjoy.

6. Plan a day at Dollywood This Smoky Mountain theme park has award-winning roller coasters and entertainment and is a great way to spend a day making memories with your family.  The Summer Celebration Festival will begin June 1 and run through August 5th with extended park hours and nightly fireworks.

7. Run on island time at The Island. This is a great place to enjoy some evening downtime with a ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel or listening to some live music on the outdoor stage at Ole Smoky Moonshine. The rockers in front of the Island Show Fountains is another great spot for relaxing on a great summer night.

8. Eat at the Old Mill restaurant. This is located in the Old Mill Square and they offer some of the best southern food in the area.  Be sure to check out their historic gristmill that is still used to grind fresh grains for the restaurants as well as for purchase in the Old Mill General Store.

9. Take a walk on the Riverwalk Trail. The Little Pigeon River flows through town and is a great spot to watch the ducks and enjoy some nature.  The paved trail is ideal for a nice family walk, jog, or bike ride.

10. Catch a youth baseball or softball game at the Ripken Experience. Their first class facilities offer turf fields named after well known professional ballparks. The 2 story clubhouse will treat you right with a great concession stand as well as great views of the area.
