How to Unwind & Play on Your Pigeon Forge Trip

Vacations are a means for getting away from the hustle and bustle of our everyday routines. Let’s be honest, we spend a lot of time being prisoners to our cellphones, televisions, computers, and to busy daily schedules at home and at work. Pigeon Forge is the perfect destination to unplug from all of those distractions and enjoy time with your family. The Parkway is packed with activities, food, and shows to make it easy to unwind and have fun. So, put those phones and computers away for a few days and enjoy every moment of your time together as a family! On second thought, you might need those phones only for the cameras so that you can photo diary the fun adventures of your stay!

The IslandConcerts at The Island is one stop spot for entertainment, food, and shopping. You can play, eat, shop, and then do it all over again. Be sure to take a family ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel and check out the bird’s eye view of the city and surrounding mountains. If your family is feeling adventurous, tackle the Island Ropes course together. There are two different courses- one for those under 48” who wish to stay closer to the ground and another one that is 3 stories tall for those that want to take on the challenge. Summer is also a great time to enjoy the free concerts on the patio at Margaritaville and at Ole Smoky Moonshine. Sing along and tap your toes together, but most of all just enjoy the moment together!

Drop LineDollywood has extended hours for the summer so there is no rush to get it all in! The “Summer Lives Here” event runs from June 17- August 6 and the park is open from 10 am to 10 pm daily.  Make it a day and enjoy great shows like Gazillion Bubbles and Dreamland Drive-In, plenty of rides like the new Drop Line which is a 20-story tall free fall experience like no other, and maybe even a five mile ride on the steam engine, Dollywood Express. The day will end with a spectacular fireworks show, Dolly’s Nights of Many Colors. Your family is sure to love every moment of your day!

Dinner shows are another great way to unwind. All your family has to do is sit back, eat, and watch the show. Let the Hatfields and McCoys entertain you as they battle out their differences mountain style or join the North or the South over at Dixie Stampede for a feast and an unforgettable show of horse riding stunts and musical productions. The Comedy Barn is another great show for the family.  This one is not a dinner show but it has been voted the “Most award winning family comedy/variety show in the Smokies.”  Your family will be entertained by ventriloquists, magicians, and more!

Little Pigeon River

There is no better way to soak in no distractions than to sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of the beautiful nature that surrounds you. Whether it be on a park bench along the Little Pigeon River watching and feeding the ducks or sitting along a stream in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park skipping rocks. Maybe your family would prefer a good ole’ picnic at Patriot Park just enjoying the things of summer like watermelon, lemonade, and a little frisbee.

Put away those distractions and “live in the moment” with your family this summer! Quality family time, the Smokies, and Pigeon Forge…doesn’t get any better than that!
