Our family actually has the hardest time packing for trips this time of year. We have definitely acclimated to living in a warm climate so our wardrobes do not contain the typical winter attire. We tend to pack clothes that can be layered, like sweatshirts, sweaters, long sleeve undershirts, and jeans.
This way, we are prepared for those days when it warms up by afternoon but yet also still ready for the colder mornings and evenings. A few definite “must take” items for us are a scarf, hat, coat, and gloves, especially if we are planning on doing any outdoor activities like walking around at our favorite theme park, Dollywood. During this time of year, there may or may not be snow. But you can’t go wrong with some thick socks and a pair of comfy winter boots! There is nothing worse than cold feet to put a damper in a day’s fun.
Be prepared to bundle up even more if you are heading up into the Great Smoky Mountains to do a little hiking. Temperatures will vary at the different elevations. We like to bundle up and grab a warm cup of hot cocoa or coffee to carry along on our adventure.
Lastly, don’t forget to pack your appetite, your adventuresome spirit, and your love for family fun and memories. You are sure to find plenty of warm comfort foods to enjoy at Old Mill Restaurant or Mama’s Farmhouse to satisfy your appetite and there are adventures galore waiting around every corner. So grab your family, pack your bags, and head off for some winter fun!
